Day 6

Dinner

We had a late start today because we wanted to have a leisurely morning after our busy day of travel yesterday. I woke up fairly early so I spent the morning drinking tea and working on the blog post I was too tired to do last night. The boys got up quite late so I took the opportunity to do some laundry. Always an adventure, the washing machine was in English but I couldn't tell where to put the laundry soap. YouTube to the rescue! I got the clothes all hung outside the window and hoped they wouldn't end up on the alleyway below or covered in bird droppings.

We decided we had to get in the beautiful Croatian water today. The water is super clear and an amazing blue-green shade. Very beautiful. There are not big sandy beaches here, most are pebbles or rocky. There is a spot just outside the town walls where there are ladders into the sea. We took advantage along with a lot of other people. Funny, it is super busy here but there seems to be room to do what you want and there are so many restaurants it doesn't seem there is much of a wait for those. The water was amazing, even the right temperature for me....and I don't like cold water. They have showers that stick out from the town walls which was pretty cool. We spent a while going in and out then decided to see if we could walk and 'swim' our way around the walls.

We went back inside the walls and made our way through the labyrinth of streets and alleyways. We never did find another place to swim but we found very interesting architecture, beer, snacks, and cats. One strange thing, there are cats lounging everywhere. They are totally laid back and just seem to lie around, which I can understand because it is very hot, 31 degrees today. We ended up having snacks/lunch at a Mexican restaurant. We had beer, tortilla chips and salsa, and Joe had a pizza. All very tasty. We continued our stroll and by that time we were hot again so we made our way back to our original swimming spot and took another dip. There was this little stand selling beer and other cold drinks, Mark had to try it. 2 kids seemed to be running the show, Mark bought his beer from a kid that looked 10 years old wearing a Fortnite t-shirt!

Naps were next on our agenda, We came back to the apartment and vegged out reading, showers, naps....all the good things on vacation. Finally, we decided we had to get moving to get some dinner. I had done some research online and found a little place outside the Old Town walls called Vita Bella. It was about a 20 minute walk and totally off the beaten path. Unfortunately there was no room to sit outside on the terrace so we sat inside which was sweltering. They make fire grilled pizzas and grilled meats which made the place feel like an oven. Mark had been craving some Croatian grilled meats and this place fit the bill. He had the grilled meat platter, Joe had pork kebabs, and I had a Greek salad (Mark did share some of his dinner with me). Of course,, we tried some more Croatian beer which is quite good. We had a leisurely dinner, it was fun watching the cooks do the pizzas in the brick oven. Every once in a while they would pull out some coals and throw them under the meat grill.

After dinner we wandered back to the Old Town and looked at souvenirs. Joe wants to pick up a few for his friends. We didn't find what we wanted but it was fun going up and down the streets. It is heavenly being outside with such warm nights. Finally, time for home. Folded some laundry, blog, bed.
